It's May! Just two months to go until the next Fashion Week Berlin season will start again, and the Derzeit office is already bustling with preparations for yet another edition of our daily. First order of business: flipping the pages of your TWELVE calendar to Richard, our May New Face (at Mega Model agency, Hamburg) wearing a complete look by Berlin-trained and Swiss-based designer Julian Zigerli.

The turquoise ellipses surrounding Richard are inverted, mega-sized viruses. They are a reminder of the fuss and search for the pathogen of the “HUS” virus (Hemolytic-uremic syndrome virus) that struck around this time last year, leaving 800 people sick and 20 dead. Remember: it came to us via sprouts! Living healthily can be a tricky thing... But speaking of death: On May 2nd 2011 Osama Bin Laden was hunted down in Pakistan. The yellow frame of our May picture matches the shape of the groundplan of the residential compound where he was found, shot and killed. What can we say other than the world's a dangerous place!? Think about it, though: What's acutally more likely to dispatch us, a terrorist attack or a plate topped with sprouts? Maybe we should all grab an emerald and keep it close – it's also part of the May collage: the image's hand-painted background, by Derzeit's creative director Manuel Schibli, is based on the inverted structure of the emerald, May's monthly stone and it's meant to bring: love!
All calendar images of TWELVE show fashion by Berlin-based designers worn by up-and-coming New Faces from all over Germany. The collages merge mythological references with symbols of incidents that took place in 2011 and people who passed away. Alongside you'll find fragments of stones connected to each month.
