For February, TWELVE 2012 continues with a look of Sissi Goetze's Spring/Summer collection 2012 worn by Gabriel S., a New Face of Hamburg-based agency Place Models.

February is the second month of the Roman calendar. Its name derives from the Latin word “februare”, which translates to “purify” and is connected to the ancient Roman festival “Februatio”, later known by the name “Lupercalia”. The celebration's intention was to purify and fend the city from evil spirits in order to release health and fertility. Lupercus, known as the god of shepherds in Roman mythology is also connected to this ceremony – the goat skins in the back of the collage as well as the shepherd's crook refer to him. But the shepherd's crook and its golden wreath (of interlocking hands) also reference the Arab Spring of 2011 – photos of a corona of hands illustrated many revolutionary flags. The eagle, depicted in the lower part of the collage, as well as the torn feathers also symbolize Egypt in 2011 – the eagle is the country's heraldic animal and red and white are the two positive Egyptian national colors. Black, the third national color, and the three torn feathers in lower part of the picture stand for 30 years of suppression by Hosni Mubarak and his regime; on February 11, Mubarak receded from his position as the president of Egypt.

How February 2012 will go down in history is yet to witness. Turn the pages with DERZEIT & TWELVE on March 1st to learn about the coded story of the third collage.
All calendar images of TWELVE show fashion by Berlin-based designers worn by up-and-coming New Faces from all over Germany. The collages merge mythological references with symbols of incidents that took place in 2011 and people who passed away. Alongside you'll find fragments of stones connected to each month.
